A large proportion of our micro dosing pumps are used in analysis technology and diagnostics. Some applications have to do with sample preparation for testing the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. To build up additional test capacities quickly is a global goal that can only be achieved with automated analytical instrumentation. Automation speeds up the test process considerably, saves manpower and increases the reliability of results.
Fully automated analytical instruments can contain up to sixteen micro annular gear pumps and can handle up to 4,000 samples in 24 hours. The pumps dose a few microliters of a solution of chemicals and enzymes with the highest precision and process reliability. The result of the virus diagnosis is then positive or negative. Negative means you can breathe a sigh of relief. Positive means quarantine, protecting other people from infection and thus interrupting the spread of COVID-19.
Other applications are concerned with research on vaccines and therapies against COVID-19, where research institutes at universities, international pharmaceutical companies or small start-ups are active worldwide. Every small step in development is accompanied by numerous laboratory tests. This is a mammoth task, which can also only be carried out automatically.
In the current situation, we can support the important diagnostics and contribute to the containment of COVID-19 and, in the long term, to the availability of a vaccine.
