Fresh Water and Potable Water System on an Oil Platform
A supplier of offshore equipment designed and manufactured a fresh water and potable water system for one of the most advanced oil platforms. It is a system which produces, receives, stores, treats and distributes fresh water in the form of potable and service water to all users on the platform.
A number of pumps were needed to handle saturated solutions of sodium hypochlorite (bleach), antiscalant, sodium bisulfite and coagulant. These pumps had to meet all the requirements resulting from potable water production, environment on an oil platform and technical rules according to NORSOK. Additionally, magnetically coupled pumps were needed to provide a very long service life. The pumps to handle antiscalant, sodium bisulfite and coagulant are HNPM standard versions mzr-6359 Ex.
After long term testing HNPM manufactured special OEM versions of mzr-6359 Ex and mzr-7259 Ex to withstand the severe corrosivity of saturated solutions of sodium hypochlorite: the only suitable material to make the wetted housing parts from was Titanium grade 2, and this had to meet the special requirements resulting from NORSOK M650 rev 4.
Finally, and after passing a factory acceptance test, a number of micro annular gear pumps of hermetic inert pump series were delivered in ATEX version. Inspection documents according to DIN ISO 10204:2005, ATEX certification and special material certificates according to NORSOK M650 rev 4 for the Titanium versions were supplied for all pumps
