From research to market

At the beginning of the 1990s, applied research turned its focus towards miniaturization. As a result, a plethora of innovative product ideas on a micro-scale appeared on the basis of new micro-technical production methods. In the Fraunhofer IPA’s think tank in Stuttgart, the dimensions of the approved trochoid geared displacement pump were shrinked to micro measurements. The result was the first »micro annular gear pump«, in 1994.

In the wake of the technology-oriented start-up phase in the mid-1990s, Thomas Weisener, Gerald Vögele and Karl J. Werner decided to focus on the micro annular gear pump and therefore they founded HNP Mikrosysteme GmbH in 1996. In 1998, the company, which at that time consisted of 5 employees, started out on its journey to turn prototype pumps into a product fit for introduction into the market.

The road to the right material was a rocky one paved with setbacks. Finally, HNP Mikrosysteme chose tungsten carbide as their standard material in order to guarantee long service life and required precise manufacturing of the vital functional components such as rotors and bearings. Displacement elements have also been made of oxide ceramics since 2004.

Following the market launch of the micro annular gear pump, which took over a decade to achieve, HNP Mikrosysteme now has an average annual growth rate of 25 %, and has blossomed from a start-up company into one of the market leaders for micro pumps. The number of employees in our team as of October 2014 rose to 78.

After more than 14 years of presence in the market, the mzr-pump has reached an unique profile - long service life, small dimensions, powerful materials and highest dosage precision characterize one of the most efficient industrial metering pumps for small volumes available on the market today.
